Hi,

I've created an interactive form in InDesign. I have a form field on page one where someone types their name.
I want that name to be updated on a duplicate field on page 2.

I have seen it achieved here: How To Create An Interactive PDF In Indesign - Indesign CC Tutorial - YouTube

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Dan

Hi Bob, thanks for such a quick reply.

Giving both fields the same name didn't work in InDesign. Perhaps I was doing something wrong.
However, editing the field names using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC did work.

Best wishes

Bob's right. The two fields have to have the exact same name in order for this to work. An easy way to do this is to just copy and paste the field to the other page.

Or, if the field is in the same place on the other page(s), set only the first one in InDesign. Then, after export to PDF, in Acrobat (form edit mode), select it, right-click, and choose Duplicate...

Thanks everyone for your comments.

When in InDesign I tried:
1) copy and pasting the fields (didn't work).

2) giving both fields the same name (didn't work).

Here's the fix:

1) Export the interactive pdf and edit it in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC

2) Click 'Tools > Prepare Form
3) Find the second set of fields and give them exactly the same as the fields on page 1. This will add a #1 on to the end of each name.
4) Save the form.

Extra tip:

To change the typeface in the form:
Right-click > Properties > Appearance

IIRC, InDesign will append the name of an interactive item when copy/pasted.

If you edit in InDesign, that should fix it.

Yes, you're right it does append the name. I also tried manually renaming it (please see pics in my post, above) and it didn't work for me.

Sorry Bob, I'm not trying to argue. I'm genuinely curious whether it can be done without editing in Acrobat. Thanks.

I’m glad you pointed that out. When you open those fields in Acrobat Pro, have the names changed or do they match but still not function properly?

These were both called 'Field' when I was in InDesign.
When I open those fields in Acrobat Pro, they've been renamed 'Field 1' and 'Field 2'.Screen Shot 2017-06-30 at 16.54.07.png

Seems like a bug to me.

Hi Bob, I believe you are correct about this being a bug. I encountered the same issue as above. Once I updated to the newest version of indesign the issue resolved itself.
