Very recently, I have started seeing new behavior in the maps module in LR. Every time I zoom or navigate the map or try to link a photo to a location, I get a world map in grey and a message at the bottom 'Map is offline'. Then the map reverts to the regular map. It seems like the map does not update and get the latest info online.
Searching the forums, I have tried several things including reinstalling LR
What has happened and how do I correct please.
Adobe has acknowledged this problem and is looking into it. Please add your me-too vote and details of your configuration (do Help > System Info to get precise version of LR and Windows/Mac) to the bug report in the official Adobe feedback forum: Lightroom: Map module keeps flashing "map offline" when it's not | Photoshop Family Customer Community . That will help Adobe understand the scope of the problem, and you'll get notified as soon as the status of the bug changes.

This is happening to me too in both Mac OS 10 and Windows 10.
I have the latest version of Lightroom cc and it seems to be since the last upgrade.

Not a valid conclusion, I have not applied the latest update, I am still running 6.10 (not 6.10.1) and I have the same problem.

To build on dj_paige's observation, the bug report linked to above has reports of the problem with LR 6.8 and CC 2015.9. I just observed it with LR 5.7.1. So the problem is almost certainly caused by a change made by Google on the cloud side. (Whether it's a "bug" in Google or a "bug" in LR is a different question.)

I have big problems when synchronizing my maps and to ad maps in the LR library. LR is getting confusied when I sync my maps and disturbs the clarification and color labels. THIS is a big issue that stops my work and is involved in a lot of pictures please solve this asap.
