Can you export a page with 2 overlapping photos with a slider between them (so you can see anyone of them at once)?

I totally agree, If the user here isn't a DPS user already, there is no point of mentioning this obsolete product to him/her. On the other hand, alternative option from Adobe is (AEM Mobile) is intended for Enterprise establishments.

At least the user can understand that the trick can be performed with HTML and then placed in InDesign to output later to an HTML supporting platform.

The effect you're looking for can be done with an external HTML application, then placed into InDesign page. InDesign can push content to DPS platform to be viewed on tablets. InDesign can publish it using Publish Online feature so viewers/readers can inspect the content in a web browser.

InDesign doesn't have the capability to natively perform split photo effect.

Please don't point people to DPS. It's very misleading as it's only available through CC2014 and is very costly to actually use.

Bob is correct. Adobe has totally moved the product out of the range of most users. What was DPS is now called Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Mobile. It's totally oriented at Enterprise solutions and large magazines.
