Quick Selection Tool Failure

As of today my quick selection tool has started behaving as if it's the lasso tool -- I have to drag the pointer completely around the area I'm trying to quick select. I've tried changing the pixel setting; I've also uninstalled and reinstalled PhotoShop. Even when the area is selected in the manner described above, the selected area does not respond to changes I'm trying to make (brightness, saturation, etc.). Running Win 10 with 32GB memory. I've been using this PC for over a year without this happening. I've made no changes to preference settings, etc. Any pointers -- or requests for more info? Thanks. William Maxwell

No need for an answer! After my post of the quick selection tool failure I did further research and learned that the tool will work after resetting it according to instructions. Thanks anyway!
