Hello,
I am new to the forum and have searched anything related an error "There was an error working with the photo" that I just recently encountered when I tried to import photos from my SD card that I use for my Sony A7II. I am not sure if because I updated my Sony A7II firmware weeks ago when I started having this issue importing my photos. I don't have a CC Lightroom but the stand alone product Lightroom v 5.7.1. I tried opening the photos on the SD card using DxO Pro 11 and it does not have any problem opening it.
Can somebody let me know why I am encountering this? Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Ron

Welcome to the forum, Ron.
When/where are you getting this error? If it's after you click on Import and are waiting for the photos to import, make sure that the destination folder - where you are importing the photos to, set in the Destination panel - is not set to Read Only. Go out to Finder or Windows Explorer/My Computer, right-click on the folder and choose Properties. It should say "Read and Write". If this is OK, try manually copying the files into a folder on your hard drive, select that folder as the Source on the left side of the Import dialog and Add in the top center instead of Copy so that LR will leave them there upon import.

This message usually indicates that the file is corrupted somehow, and Lightroom cannot work with it. Since I am not familiar with DxO, it may be showing you the JPG preview of the photo that is embedded in RAW files, and often the JPG preview is uncorrupted, even when the RAW is corrupted. (I'm sure someone who knows more about what DxO actually does will let us know if this is correct).
One thing you can try, if the photo is still on the camera card, is to use your operating system to copy it from the camera card to the existing location on your hard disk and overwrite the image that is on the hard disk.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I am not quite sure if the file is corrupted since I can open it using DxO Pro 11, and I forgot to mention that I can also open the images using Adobe Photoshop RAW and process it. Also, I tried taking photos using a different SD card and still get the error when importing it to Lightroom.
I will try to copy the images from my SD card to my hard disk and import it to Lightroom from there. Thanks for the suggestion and will give it a try and let you know if it works or not.
Cheers!

Hi,
I tried moving the photos from my SD card to my desktop and still Lightroom cannot work with the photos. I open it using DxO and Photoshop no problem.
I really think the firmware upgrade the Sony released (June 8, 2017 v. 4) might have an effect on how Lightroom opens ARW files from Sony. I started noticing that I cannot open any of my ARW files after the update. Unfortunately, I don't have Lightroom CC on my computer so no chance of upgrading my software.
If anybody else have this issue, can you please respond to this thread. Thanks.
Thanks.
Ron
