Find won't find

My document continues to be problematic. I want to replace "Note" with "note" to make the word small caps throughout. Find/replace shows either a "cannot find match" box or no changes are made. I am not searching for style attributes, only the word.

Please make sure that case sensitive option is highlighted.

If it still does not work try resetting InDesign preferences to defaults.

It is highlighted. That makes no difference. It will find nothing (well I haven't looked for nothing, but I've looked for various words).

It started working after a system crash and restart. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for next time.

It is highlighted.

That is the issue. When you highlight a word and initiate a Find, InDesign defaults to searching the selected text. Change Search to Document.

I was searching the document, not the selection, and nothing was highlit. However it seems to be working now.

Great, just be aware that anytime you select a word and open Find/Change, it will quietly and without fanfare, default to selection.

I agree wholeheartedly. Even though I know this is how Find/change works, it still trips me up regularly.
