Can't move objects InDesign Mac on Sierra

I have scoured the forum for this issue and apparently a lot of people have the same problem.

There are NO working solutions.

I have only experienced it after upgrading to Sierra.

I have tried deleting all the preferences.

I have tried reinstalled InDesign.

I have tried clean installing Sierra.

Same thing happens every time: InDesign works fine for a while, then at some arbitrary time during the day I can no longer move objects.

Objects are selectable, can be moved with the arrow keys, but click and drag with a cursor does not work.

I also noticed I can not move my dock icons in the macOS desktop when I have this issue with InDesign.

Restarting InDesign does not help.

I simply have to log out -OR- restart and then InDesign works fine and dock icons are movable again.

This is not an acceptable solution for me, nor for anyone else.

Can Adobe and Apple get together to solve this?

Make sure Sierra is updated to 10.12.5. There were bugs in earlier versions.

You're not running the latest version of InDesign. You want to update to 12.1.0.56, which also fixes bugs:

My Creative Cloud desktop app does not show an update is necessary.

How do I force and update. The Help menu Updates... is also gray.

Is an update .dmg available for download?

I wrote an article for CreativePro.com about the CC desktop app:

See the section called, "What If the CC Desktop App Doesn't Show Updates"

Hey.  Thanks, very good article . . . but not updating.

I forced the "Check for App Updates", then I uninstalled and reinstalled.

I even logged out like Mr Walker suggested above.

Still only shows that Acrobat wants to Update.

I can't find a dmg to download from the Adobe site.

Any other idea?  I'll keep looking.

Appreciate all the help.

Maybe log out of CC and log back in. Definitely, an update should be available for you - maybe a log out will wake it up?
As Steve said 12.1.0.56 is the latest version.

EDIT - Steve's article is good. Sorry, it only showed after I replied.

Hi,

The article posted above by Steve is really good. I hope you also tried signing out and singing back in and then clicking on "Check for app updates" option from the menu.

Basically the section in the article that says..

What If the CC Desktop App Doesn’t Show Updates?

What is the creative cloud version you are using?

Uninstall then re-install was successful to update InDesign to 12.1.0.56.

Hope I don't have to do this for my other apps.

I'll just have to wait and see if it corrects the original move objects problem.

I'll check back with in a update soon.

Thank you all for the good advise.

Hey.  Just wanted to report that this is still happening.

I was away last week, so only 4 days has passed and I still am experiencing the original issue and I am all up-to-date:

  1. InDesign works fine for a while, then at some arbitrary time during the day I can no longer move objects.
  2. Objects are selectable, can be moved with the arrow keys, but click and drag with a cursor does not work.
  3. I also noticed I can not move my dock icons in the macOS desktop when I have this issue with InDesign.
  4. Restarting InDesign does not help.
  5. I simply have to log out -OR- restart and then InDesign works fine and dock icons are movable again.

Is there anyone experiencing the same thing and is there a solution?

The fact that InDesign "works fine for a while" then stops working arbitrarily suggests the possibility of conflicting third-party software (or perhaps hardware problems).

To eliminate this possibility, I would open InDesign in a new user on your computer (use System Preferences > Users & Groups to create one if you need to). Then launch InDesign and no other software and see if the problem re-occurs.

If you launch other programs, pay attention to whether the start of any of them interferes with InDesign.

I dont know if its happening again, but a few years ago the LastPass Chrome extension was conflicting with InDesign.

If you are using LastPass, or other browser extensions, I would try to de-activate them one by one.

Here is the previous post, and a video I made back then.

Re: InDesign CC 2014 Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working

InDesign CC Shortcuts - Chrome - LastPass - YouTube

Sorry if this is no help for you.
