Script to apply paragraph style and span setting to tables

I have been working on a script to help clean up imported Word documents. We deal with a lot of tables and they end up needing a lot of reformatting. I'd like to automate a couple of things we end up having to do:

1) Ensure that there is a hard return (rather than soft return) before and after all tables—it should be in it's own paragraph

2) Apply a particular paragraph style to all tables

3) Set the paragraph settings for the table to span all columns (if this is not possible I can add this setting to the paragraph style applied in #2 instead)

I've been struggling to find a starting point for this script for a while. My javascript knowledge is very limited and I haven't been able to find anything like this yet.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
