aecc 2017.2 crashing at startup

What is causing it to crash when i try to open a comp on windows 10 device?

I haven't used the program in months.

it seems it won't open older comps from months ago.

when i open an older comp, it says the comp must be converted from a previous version, it then loads that version completely but then stops working and gives me the error to close program

I can open comps that i created in the past few days without any issue.

I am running the newest up to date version from CC.

what could be the problem?

Try not to open the file but import it. Comment us if this works.

That did not solve the problem, AECC still crashes right after opening.

Try to delete the After Effects Preferences. Hold CTRL+SHIFT+ALT just before launching AE. You will be prompted to delete the preferences. Then, try to open again your project.

i deleted preferences and restarted and that did not help, AE still closes when opening those older comps

Does starting a new project work okay? Does creating a new composition work okay?

Are you sure? This thread is about AE crashing when trying to open older projects. You posted in another thread where AE was crashing when trying to launch AE saying that that was your problem. Which issue are you experiencing? Crashing on launch or crashing when trying to open older projects?

It is not happening with older files... it is happening regardless of the file and inconsistently.

I already have both 2015.3 and 2017 installed in the same pc when the problem is happening.

The old comps use 3rd party plugins like element 3d....the plugins are up to date in cc 2017 so I assume they are running as the newest version when i open the comps.
