Broken Paint Bucket

The color doesn't come out correctly.  The foreground color is red and the paint bucket lays down the green.  If white is chosen then black will come out.  It's never what I want.  Any suggestions, please?

What is the blending mode of the paint bucket set to . If it is normal - check the blending mode of the layer ?

Thanks for responding, Dave!  I reset things in preferences and relaunched the program.  Now things are fine.

The blend mode for the layer may be set to Difference mode instead of Normal.
