Help! Lightroom will not find the files on my camera while in import(I have tried 2 different cameras).  I can see the files using windows explorer so it shouldn't be a usb cable issue.  I can also copy the files to a folder in lightroom, then synchronize the folder and the photos will show up, so it shouldnt be a raw file issue.  Files from my 2nd hardrive will show up.  I have updated lightroom with the most current update, deleted the preference file, tried a new catalog and reinstalled lightroom.  Im not sure what to do next.  I really like the import module for renaming and converting to DNG.  Any advice will help.  Sometimes lightroom will lock up after canceling import from camera after the files not showing up.

Import finding files error.JPGimport working from hardrive.JPG

Thank you

Brian

I don't know why Lightroom doesn't see the files when you try to import from the camera.

But this method of importing is considered to be the slowest and least safe way of importing.

My workflow is similar to yours (Copy as DNG), but I always transfer the files to a temporary folder on my computer using a card reader.

You can set Lightroom to show the import dialog when synchronizing the folder, there's an option for that when you right click the folder and choose Synchronize.

I see from your screenshot that you are converting jpg files to DNG.

I never shoot jpg, but I fail to see the advantage of doing this, it doesn't convert the jpgs into raw files, and the DNGs will be much larger than the jpgs.

See this thread Import "Copy as DNG" not for JPG? and a blog post by John Nack from 2007.

I shoot raw.  The folder I selected for the screen shot just happened to have jpg.  I bought a card reader to see if that will help out (should be here Tuesday).  Also when I plug in an external hardrive the import module comes up automatically.  im pretty stumped at this point.  I will try the temporary folder next time.  Thanks for your advice.
