All windows blank when opening InDesign

When I open InDesign CS3 today, all windows are now blank (tools menu, open .indd files, new document window, everything). This problem is not replicated in any other Creative Suite software (Ps, Dw, Ai). I tried clicking on the blank space where items or tool buttons are, to no effect, but the software itself is not crashing; I can still click on "File," "Edit," etc.

I first noticed this problem today, and the software was working when I used it three weeks ago. I have installed a macOS update since then, but no other system changes. I've tried deleting my InDesign preferences, and that did not change anything.

Hi Jonathan,

As you know, it's not supported, there's little we can do about it. It's more like a fluke that it was working fine earlier. Hope you understand. May be time to upgrade.

Regards,

Om

Thanks, Steve. I have tried both the keyboard and manual trash/reset, but that has not changed the behavior of the software on start up.

If the mac OS update you installed is Sierra you should be aware that CS3 is not officially supported to run correctly on that OS. That being said there is one other possible fix for a UI issue which is to delete your InDesign cache files.

To do so:

With InDesign closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the “Caches” folder. Within the Caches folder find and delete the entire file “Adobe InDesign”. I find that deleting the cache file completely leads to a lasting change.

This has worked for me before when things had disappeared from Panels.

Thanks, Bill. I have followed your guidance, but alas it has not solved my current issue.

I am using High Sierra 10.13. I know CS3 is old and not officially supported by this OS version, but it has been working as expected until just today. Thanks!

That’s a beta operating system. Don’t expect any help here at all.

You can try reporting it to Apple but CS3 is now nine full versions out of date.

Thanks for your kind response, Om. I think I'm going to follow your advice, bite the bullet, and upgrade to CC.
