Application not responding

I wonder if someone can help me. All of my Adobe apps take over 5 minutes to open and continually say application not responding. When they do eventually open they run so slow and just crash when I try to purge the cache. I was online with support for over 3 hours yesterday where they just made my problem worse. They installed older versions of the apps and now I can't update my Lightroom. I've tried doing this from the Creative Cloud application but this freezes and is now in a state showing 'finishing' and has been for hours. Someone mentioned opening Lightroom and checking to see that I'm on the latest version but it won't even open now for me to do this. Ive given my Mac a high clear out and space is not a problem so I have no idea what's going on. If someone could help I would be very grateful.
