Text Tool Doesn't Work since Most Recent Windows 10 Update

My PC did an automatic Windows 10 update this past weekend. Since the update, the Text tool in Photoshop Elements 15 no longer functions. I had the same problem in Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud 2017, but that resolved when I downloaded the most recent update for Photoshop CC2017. I like using Elements for basic photo and text editing because it's simpler.

The first error when I attempted to use the Text tool was: "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized."

I tired resetting the Text tool, but that causes Elements to shut down.

Any other ideas about what to try, or a patch for Photoshop Elements 15?

Hi laurien,

Thanks for posting in Adobe forums.

Could you please try the following steps:

Firstly,

- Open Photoshop Elements

- Click "Edit"

- Click "Preferences"

- Click "General"

- Click " Reset preferences on the next launch"

- Re-open the program & test "Text Tool" again.

If this doesn't help you then secondly,

- Select "Text Tool" from the toolbox.

- Click the Reset_Tool_2.PNGto open the menu in Tool Options.Reset_Tool_1.PNG

- Click "Reset Tool" or "Reset All Tools

- Restart Adobe Photoshop Elements & test "Text Tool" again.

Thanks

Regards

Thank you. Just tried both options, no change. Still getting "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized."

Hi grolwes@aol.com,

Thanks for posting in Adobe forum.

I understand you are facing same issue with text tool.

Kindly try the steps provided in the above thread.

If this doesn't work then please try to test your Elements software in a new admin user account & check whether its working fine or not.

Hope to see your reply soon.

Thanks

I just fixed this problem I had with Photo Elements 12. Go to ":\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Adobe\TypeSupport" and open the TypeSupport folder. Delete everything in it. Make sure Photoshop is closed before deleting. Once deleted, open Photoshop and try the text tool again. If it doesn't work, you may have to open apps and programs to repair all your Microsoft Visual C++ files, rebooting after each repair. This is what I had to do before deleting all the files in TypeSupport as listed above. Hope this helps.

Hi,

please get to the following location on your computer and rename the folder PSE(version number) to PSE_old.

C:\Users\'username'\AppData\Local\Adobe\TypeSupport

Check of the text tool works fine after renaming the folder.

Thanks and regards
