Strange Goings On with Photoshop CC 2017.1.1 with Residual Welcome Screen Halo Effect

I'm constantly getting a hallo version of the Photoshop CC 2017.1.1 Welcome Screen on my screen while I work. This has been happening for some time now and recent updates to the app have not fixed this.

I have attached a screen shot so that you can see the issue I'm talking about more visually. It's very annoying!!!

Does anyone know how I could stop this from happening, or hide this effect...

Screenshot 2017-07-25 17.19.06.pngScreenshot 2017-07-25 17.22.25.png
Even with Photoshop in the background and my browser in the foreground the same glitch appears.

If I got to my Photoshop image and move it around the halo disappears... but appears again when I go to another app and return to the Photoshop app again.

If I quit the Photoshop app altogether the halo issue 100% disappears.

Any help, suggestions or comments most welcome.

And if you want to open a Jpeg in Camera Raw from Ps just to see what it can do, select "Camera Raw" in the File > Open dialog.

If you do anything to a jpeg in ACR then until you clear  the settings it will always open in ACR. You will have clear the settings in Bridge CC 2017. A free download.

You're welcome.

As a side note:  My daughter spent a few days in Ireland with a friend.  She loved the country so much, she is planning to return to Dublin for a another vacation at some time in future.

Hi again Peru Bob....

That's a great side not to hear.... Dublin is a great place for sure... but next time she should try and visit the real Capital... Cork (that's where I live), this would be far more south... but she would get to see the glorious West Cork coastline and visit Kerry (we call it The Kingdom) with Killarney and Dingle... she would love it.

Thank you again for all your help!! And y any further Ireland questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I spoke toooo soon.... the issue is back... so now I'm playing around with the Use Graphics Processor (Advanced Settings)... starting off with Basic Mode to see if that makes a difference.... but I do have a MacPro 12 Core (Mid 2010) with 68GB RAM plus ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB Graphics Card... for past 7 years I have always had the setting to the max as I felt my system could take it.

The issue has only started happening in the past few months.... and I just dunno why... it doesn't stop me working but it's seriously annoying!!!!

A Mid 2010 12 Core Mac Pro is impressive, but it is dealing with software code that's years ahead.

Seems your graphics card makes the grade, but 2 GB is recommended. Are you allowed to upgrade the card?

Photoshop system requirements

Adobe Camera Raw has a "Use Graphics Processor" feature separate from Photoshop that has been known to cause odd problems in Ps. Uncheck it, restart and see if it goes away.

You can also install an earlier version of Photoshop, not only to isolate the problem, but as a backup in case 2017 is glitching.

This screenshot guide (Mac, of course) will show you how: How to Find and Install Previous Version of Adobe Apps in CC 2015 | Adobe Customer Care Team

So let's start here.

Thank you Gener7 for your comments and suggestions... excuse my ignorance... but as I rarely ever use RAW files in my workflow... I only ever see this dialog box if I open an image file and it's in RAW format and PS automatically open this whole window for me.... how do I bring this up in PS...?

It's a submenu of Preferences and you should see it here:

Odd enough, you will not see it in the Preferences dialog, it's a separate item. ACR also works with Jpegs and Tiffs as well.

Anyway even without it open, it did create "blocks" in Photoshop image files and is disabled depending on the card.

Hi Gene.... you have been so so helpful.... thank you.... I tried disabling the Use Graphics Processor in the Camera Raw Preferences but it made no difference... that welcome screen halo outline is still appearing over all my images... I will work with it for now as it might be resolved in a future update. I don't really wanna revert to an old version of PS... kinda defeats the purpose of paying all this subscription money not to be using the latest and greatest

Thank you once more for all your generous help and assistance. It's very much appreciated.

Get your rest... sweet dreams!!

Regards,Anthony
