Hi
I am currently working in Indesign cc 2017 and I am trying to create an interactive annual report for one of my clients. This annual report will most likely be viewed on a computer as well as on a tablet. Therefore I have set up alternative layouts for both horizontal and vertical viewing. However when I then publish the document online and view the link on an iPad or iPhone, the document doesn't utilise the vertical and horizontal versions independently, and instead publishes and displays all the different orientations. Does anyone know how you make it responsive to just show the relevant orientation dependent on which way you are holding your smartphone/tablet?
Thanks very much.
PDFs do not support dual orientation.

Thanks Bob! Glad Im asked as I could have spent a lot of time trying to figure that out. I am assuming the responsive alternative layouts are really for building apps, and not interactive documents.

Right but even having two layouts is not the definition of responsive.

You can't.
It is either Vertical or Horizontal when you export just one of yout alternative layouts or witn exporting your complete document you will se what you see now.
You expect the document to change when the device is turned from Landscape to Portrait by showing the different layout (like in the now very old DPS workflow) but that is not the way it works. An alternative layout is just another 'version' kept on different pages.
if you want this to work you will have to design iN HTML not InDesign.

Id really appreciate it if in future versions online publishing could be responsive. I have to make digital catalogues for my company and It-ll be double the export and keeping track, because I have to have both versions on line
