Is there a trick to using Ripple effect without getting this nasty aliasing on the edges? Maybe some way to "increase geometry" or smooth edges I don't know about? I need the edges to be hard/not feathered, but I need to get rid of this aliasing. Screenshot attached below*
I'm distorting a shape layer, so rasterization is not a factor.
I've tried making the comp massive and tiny, all result in the same amount of aliasing, which leads me to believe the aliasing is from the math that Ripple is doing, not from the pixels within. (Comp in screenshot is 2000x2000)
If I reduce the intensity (wave height / width) the aliasing is reduced, but that doesn't help since these are the settings I need.
Any creative ideas are much appreciated!!
If this is shape layer based... can you separate out the red from the cream, ie:
layer 1: red on transparent - with ripple distort
layer 2: cream background
If so, you could then apply a matte choker or similar effect to smooth the alpha (transparency) of the red layer.
Matte choker is a rather unintuitive effect, but I can recommend a great 9 minute tutorial...

AH I only tried simple choker. I never really knew the true use of matte choker, thanks!
