photoshop freezing when i open the text button

I am pulling my hair out over this one. Photoshop works fine until i need to make letters or words in a psd. then I get a black screen with the navigation window showing. I've restarted the program a few times, then uninstalled and reinstalled the program, and now I'm at my wits' end in trying to get this photoshop program to work.

Please help.

Mac or Windows, and EXACTLY which version of the operating system?

Recent Mac AND Windows operating systems have been known to cause "odd" problems

Are you using a computer Administrator account with full read/write permission?

Exactly which version of the program do you have that is causing problems?

Also, graphic adapter brand (NVidia, amd, ???) and model, and driver version
