I'm no accountant, so I may have this  completely wrong.

As of July  1 2017, all 'imported' digital products and services now incur a 10% GST.

Can anyone explain why Adobe started adding GST to their subscription price seven months before the government actually started collecting it?

"Starting on December 1, 2016, Adobe is required to charge GST on all goods and services in accordance with Australia tax laws".

This was Adobe's statement when they decided to start adding 10% back in December 2016.

However, "in accordance with Australia tax laws", they were required to start charging GST on July 1, 2017 not December 1, 2016.

If I'm mistaken, can someone point me to references to the legislation that validates Adobe's statement, because I'm unable to find any.
