ZoomSearch

I created a icon for the toolbar, created the ZoomSearch page, search_results directory etc in my development version. (I believe following all of the directions in Peter's website). I then generated the file, and attempted to test the search function.

I do get the search options, complete the search with the topics listed in the window - however, clicking on the link (which I had tied to the production version) results in a "page not found" error. On that error screen, it actually is displaying the full screen of the help topic with the Table of Contents and toolbar along the top of the window.

1. How can I either make it open in a new window - or remove the extra icons and table of contents?

2. Do I need to link it instead to the development version within the ZoomSearch configuration?

Thank you,

Christi

OK but it seems you have shelved out a lot of money for RoboServer if you are now not going to use it.

The issue is almost certainly one of the relative paths in the ZoomSearch configuration. Read those instructions carefully.

I will look out for any further posts but will not be around much until Monday.

I would pay particular instructions to the steps involving the configuration of ZoomSearch, rather than those involving putting the code in.

Often it is worth setting up a simple test project with new procedures. Just a few topics and you can see what is going on.

Peter,

I have set up a second small project - can get the javascript version to populate - however it is not setting up the links correctly.

Question for this moment is however, in your steps you indicate on the second page of the wizard to disable the RH7 search options. I am not finding where I can disable the search options when creating a WebHelp Pro project.

Thank you.

I cannot answer that as I don't work with WebHelp Pro. There doesn't seem to be a way of removing the Search button from the Skin and as you cannot deselect it in the Wizard, it would appear that you cannot remove the standard functionality in WebHelp Pro.

Christi:

I responded to your linking issue in the Zoom forum.

As to the WebHelp Pro issue: do you really need WebHelp Pro, or would standard WebHelp work for you? As I understand it, the Statistical feedback you get from Pro is only available from the help that resides on a RoboHelp Server (usually if you're hosting the help online). If you're not hosting the help yourself, I think each of your customers must have a RoboHelp Server license to take advantage of the feature. Anyone else, do I have that right?

Good luck,
Leon

Yes, one licence per server is my understanding.

Peter,

What format are you using to create your project, or what do you suggest? If I switch to just WebHelp as Leon suggests, will that allow for removing the other Search functionality?

Leon,

I had started with FlashHelp Pro - and switched to the WebHelp Pro, so that I would be able to edit the skin. I do not believe I need any actual statistical data from RH itself. The online help resides on an Intranet - and any actual customers to the site, merely want the instructional information.

Thank you.

Whoa! There are some basics here that need addressing. Both WebHelp Pro and FlashHelp Pro required RoboServer to run. That is an extra cost option so have you invested in that? If you have not, both Pro options will not run properly. Are these outputs working on the server?

If you have not got RoboServer, then WebHelp and FlashHelp are your options. I use webhelp and that allows me to turn off the search button. Look in the webhelp wizard.

Peter,

Yes, both of the Pro formats are working fine on the server. I have switched the primary layout to WebHelp - which is now allowing me to see the extra wizard screens, thank you for that information.

The ZoomSearch is populating correctly, as is the navigation at the top of the page. Just need to figure out the last piece of why it will not display the linkafter clicking on the found results.

Peter,

I would tend to agree on the RoboServer piece, and we will look into that further... passed on that information to those that make that decision.

More importantly... IT WORKS!!

After 50 times of reading your site - and the wrensoft forum help and user guides. I finally realized I missed one important line:

"The base url will be the relative path between the two, using the above folders that will be ../ "

Thanks for your help and patience!

can anyone provide an example what this means?

That looks to be an extract of the page on my site about ZoomSearch. Not sure how you would expect anyone else to recognise it and therefore understand the question.

It means the path the follows starts one folder up from the current path. By inserting that, it tells ZoomSearch that when it is called from within the help, all the folders it knows about start one folder up.

Hope that is clear.
