If you can walk into a MicroCenter store here is what I consider an excellent starter system​ for $1300.

Open M.2 PCIe Gen 3 X4 slot upgrade connector for Project files M.2 SSD upgrade. And, yes I have been assured by Asrock that with one graphics card using full x16 lanes that the M.2 connector has full PCIe Gen 3 x4 connectivity even though the i7-7700K has only 16 PCIe lanes.(Z270 chipset over the Z170 version)..

meh, unbalanced with the gtx 1070. a budget 4-core intel pc should cost closer to $1k. if 8th gen intel rumors are true, it will make this 4-core system look bad at that price. for that same price there are dell and hp computers with 8 core amd ryzen and gtx 1060 or rx 580.
Guess I will have to agree that this one might be a better choice. The only thing I see different is this unit has a small M.2 SSD drive so I would add a SATA III SSD for the OS/Applications and use the M.2 drive for project files if you only have smallish projects.

Actually, that is the spec of the Z270 (and Z170) chipset, according to Intel. All Z270 (and Z170) motherboards run their m.2 socket off of the PCIe Gen3 lanes on their PCH. This leaves all 16 available PCIe Gen3 lanes on the CPU for discrete GPUs.
