I created a rather complex diagram in InDesign but I need it to have alt text. My understanding is that I need it to be a single image to allow for one alt text (please share if you have a different solution). When I copy/paste the diagram to Photoshop and then place the resulting image in InDesign, it turns out far too blurry. Any suggestions?

You can group all the items, then apply Alt text to that group. Does that not work for you?

It does not work -the screen reader in Adobe DC will read the text boxes and not the alt text I provided for the grouped content. I did try tagging everything in the group as an image (including the text boxes).

Too bad. How about adding the Alt-text to one of the text boxes in the group -- does that work? Can you disable reading a frame's contents, e.g. by setting its Alt-text to a space?

Alt Text can be entered in InDesign. Select the picture and choose Object > Object Export Options. From the menu list choose Custom to type it in in InDesign. Or the XML fields can be entered in Adobe Bridge and reused for different projects:

I'm familiar with both grouping and adding alt text in InDesign. Unfortunately, when I export to pdf, it insists on reading the text boxes within the grouped diagram rather than the alt text I've provided.
