PS and Br have become slower and slower and now PS do not start up

PS & BR are resource heavy.   Does your computer meet the minimum requirements to support Creative Cloud, Photoshop & Bridge + your OS + all other hardware and software?

• Adobe Creative Cloud system requirements
• Photoshop system requirements
• Adobe Bridge system requirements

Do you have ample scratch disk space to support what you do in Photoshop, Bridge, etc....?  

Do you perform regular computer optimization routines to remove old TEMP & Internet files?  Do you ever Defrag your HD to improve performance?

Hi graverholt,

every patch, upgrade oder bugfix at your OS is incremental. Incremental means – only, if HDD (not SSD!) – an obviously insert where space is. As mentioned above you should think about a defrag – but only, if it's a HDD.

So, every surfin, video or audio stream, installation and de-installation slows down your OS (especially Windows). You get temporary files from the internet into your temporary folder(s). Bad case is, if you stop streaming, surfing and so on, the files will be left on your HD. You waste space, PS, your OS require to work in a regular and well-known way; while de-installation often lefts entries in your registry (the brain of your OS) with (tons of) useless informations your OS tries to find and activate (or even read and find the file behind the string).

So? Adobe support is not allowed to recommend software for this. I am not Adobe staff, so I recommend! But this is Windows-help ... I have no idea about Apple:

[ 1 ] Visit piriform.com and download "CCleaner" (to clean-up temporary files and registry). If you need help in using, say a word to me! Repeat "scan for errors" and "fix errors" as long errors appear.

[ 2 ] If you use a HDD (maybe your PS is installed on it), download "Defrag" from the same URL and use it on your HDD; once more: only on a HDD to not reduce lifetime of a possibly SSD. My hint: "The color red is bad." (you will understand if you see it) Why "Defrag"? You can target one folder by right-click and you don't have to wait a f***in day to get finished with defragging.

After that, reboot! The first reboot is maybe a little bit slower (if power enough, as said, you won't recognize it). After that: full throttle.

Worst case szenario: You made the recommendations and it's still sloooow. Well, be a typical Redmond-Monkey an press "CTRL + ALT + DEL" to open up the task manager. Something is using your PC in a critical way (e. g. Skype, backend processes like Windows Updates or - damn evil - you are part of a botnet, malware is running or similar). This would be more challenging and would be a longer text about a what-to-do.

Try resetting your Photoshop preferences, which you can do in the recent versions of Photoshop within preferences, but as you can't launch Photoshop do this:

Close Photoshop then hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and relaunch Photoshop. Respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences.
