I have connected my Canon 5D II to my Macbook Pro via HDMI but Lightroom doesn't detect the camera. Why is that? What can I do?
Good clarification. 🙂
Which exact version of LR are you using?
This page suggests your 5D2 is probably good at any recent LR version. However, if you are not at 6.12 (2015.12), you might try updating.

If you are looking to do simple file transfers, use a card reader instead of connecting the camera directly. In the long run you will be much happier. Card readers are faster at the transfer, require no special drivers, are far less error prone, and do not drain your camera batteries.

Well. My question was not good. I want to tether the camera in LR, so I can see my pictures as I take them.

I am using the latest version of LR 2015.12 and I have checked that the camera SHOULD work, but nothing happens. Could there be a problem with that I connect with HDMI?

I think tether only works with USB
