Recent issue with externally edited files not shown until LR restarted (and slower performance)

I'm running LR 5.7 on Windows 10. It's worked great for years but in the last few days, I've noticed a slight decrease in performance (I have a large catalog of about 60,000 pictures, but LR should be good for much larger catalogs). But more significantly for the past 3 or 4 days, pictures aren't showing up in LR in cases like these:

* I externally edit an image; the new version does not show up in LR

* I import a new image that matches a smart collection, but the smart collection doesn't show the image

In both cases, when I close LR and reopen it, the situation is corrected. This is rather strange; what am I likely doing wrong? Thanks!

Hi DBarman,

Could you please make sure that Lightroom 5 is updated to the latest version 5.7.1. Also, Optimize Lightroom performance and let us know if that helps.
