I upgraded to CC 2017 and can no longer composites photos. The magic wand tool doesn't seem to work. Is this a bug in 2017 version? If so, Should I reinstall the 2015 version?

I resolved my issue. When I placed (embedded) JPEG files, they were converted to smart objects. I don't recall having this issue before but I rasterized the JPEG's and I'm good to go.

You have given hardly any meaningful information.

Please post a screenshot showing all pertinent Panels (Layers, Channels etc.), the Options Bar, …

Have you reset the Tool yet?

What have you done for trouble-shooting so far?

Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

I know what the issue is. This was project I started in CC 2015 so I need to finish the work in that version of PS.

What’s your reasoning for this assumption?

Why exactly should Photoshop CC 2017 not work on that file?

Did you use any plug-ins that do not work with CC 2017?

I've always had issues working with projects created on previous versions of  Adobe software. Premiere Pro is a perfect example. Adobe often times doe not provide backwards compatibility so I'm learning to keep previous versions of software so I can work on older projects.

That sounds pretty much like nonsense when it comes to Photoshop.

Once again: Please post a screenshot showing all pertinent Panels (Layers, Channels etc.), the Options Bar, …

When I placed (embedded) JPEG files, they were converted to smart objects.

See

Photoshop > Preferences > General > Always Create Smart Objects when Placing

I don't recall having this issue before

A feature rather than an issue in my opinion.

And please post a screenshot of CC 2015, too, so we can see if the Tool’s settings in the two versions are identical.

I've never had an issue opening a Project from CC2015 and using it/continuing it in CC2017.

I also don't know of any new bug with the magic wand tool.

Please post the details requested by c.pfaffenbichler.

I resolved the issue but I've always had issues upgrading. Are you on a Mac or a PC? I use a Windows 10 machine and that could be a source of issues for me.m
