Ever since the last update, I have not been able to open any PDFs in Acrobat Pro DC. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled without any luck. My Mac OS is 10.9.3. Has anyone else had this issue and/or know how to fix it?

I moved your question to the Acrobat General Troubleshooting forum, first of all.

What happens when you try to open a PDF file? Is there an error message of some kind?

Also, are you able to open the application on its own, without trying to open a file?

I can open the application, but that is all. I do not get any error messages; files just won't open.

Hello Cmsykes,

I am sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. Would you mind sharing more details about the issue? Are you on a Mac or Windows machine and what is the version?

What is the version of Acrobat installed? To identify, refer to Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Make sure you have the latest verison of Acrobat 19.010.20069 installed, check for any pending updates from help menu>select check for updates, reboot the machine and check.

Try opening a few PDF files in Acrobat through WIndow>Cascade>Tile and see if this brings any PDF files?

For the second issue, try changing the default PDF viewer and select Acrobat. For Windows, you may refer to Associate PDF files to always open in Acrobat or Reader on Windows 10

For Mac:

  • Single click a PDF file you wish to open or any PDF file in general while holding the Control key. Then select GET INFO from the menu you’ve opened.
  • Click the drop-down menu for OPEN WITH.
  • Select Adobe Acrobat from the menu.
  • Click on the CHANGE ALL button to keep the changes.

let us know how it goes and share your observation.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

We have had the same problem with Acrobat DC. We have a Mac OS X and some email pdf file attachments open ok, but some attachments open as 'scrambled' letters and figures. We have found that by right clicking on the e-mail pdf attachment and opting for 'download' (left click), then clicking on the download icon (top right of screen) to open the downloads list, then right clicking on the downloaded attachment, then choosing 'Open' from the menu (left click), the attachment opens. This seems to work both for texts and images.

So it's been like 8 months and Adobe doesn't know how to fix their own software? Do they just not care about the Acrobat program? Maybe we should take this to social media to get a better response.

This is not Adobe's support - most of the people you see here do not work for Adobe, and are just users' of Adobe's (in this case) PDF technology. This means that we don't have access to Adobe internal information about bugs or fixes in the works. We can help with issues that we have experience with. In this case, this symptom is a new one, and even though I run Acrobat DC on a MacBook Pro, I have not seen this problem, nor do I know of how to fix it. Only Adobe's support team can help you. Get in touch with them using this link: http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html (don't use any of the "Forum" options, otherwise you will end up here again)

Hi Tariq,

Adobe won't allow me to select from Acrobat DC from the support link you posted, but I'm still experiencing this problem.  Has anyone resolved this issue yet?  I'm using version 2018.011.20035.  It won't open any .pdfs.  I've tried multiple.

So I found a solution...not "THE" solution. But I have been working with Adobe on this. We tried a reinstall...didn't work. We tried the cleaner... didn't work. We event did a complete Cloud reinstall...didn't work. So they sent me a link to download Acrobat from 2015. This works. I just have to get a serial number so I can use it past 15 days. Not ideal but at least I can view pdfs again.

So I was having this problem as well.  (I am on OSX High Sierra 10.13.3).  It has been an ongoing issue for a few weeks now, double-click a PDF and Acrobat opens, but there is no PDF visible.  It has been driving me crazy because it is annoying to only be able to see the PDF using Preview in OSX.

I work primarily in VFX and there are a couple of my applications that have an issue when I switch between having an external monitor and not having one (I am on a laptop).  The window location does not update when I unplug the external monitor, so if I have a non-modal window on the second monitor, I can't get to it if I unplug the monitor.  Most other apps automatically move all the windows so that they are only on active monitors.

Well, I was sitting here trying desperately to open a PDF, and it occurred to me that I may have had the last PDF I used on my external monitor, which was the case.  I plugged in the external monitor and there was the PDF.  I then unplugged the external monitor and the PDF did not move.  I then used a trick that works sometimes on my other apps.  In the Adobe DC menu, go to Window and then pick Cascade or one of the Tile options. This will rearrange windows on the current monitor to Cascade or tile them.  This brought my PDF to my laptop screen and now I can view PDF's again.

Again, this worked for me, it may not work for you if you don't use external monitors.

EDIT:  I did also try uninstalling and reinstalling Acrobat DC from the CC menu.  It kept all the settings between installations apparently

Thank you jbrandibas! I was having the exact same problem this week. I have spent the last hour uninstalling and reinstalling from CC and from my apps folder, deleting preference files, cruising through the preference settings; nothing was working. And then I read your post.

Picking a Tile option did the trick!

Happy again!

I suddenly had the same issue of being able to open the application, but was not able to open any PDFs. No error messages, etc. I did a live chat with Adobe support and they told me to open Acrobat - go under the Window menu - Click on "Zoom". Once I did that my initial start window opened with all my recent documents that had been opened and I was able to open other PDFs. All is good now.
