Changing Text color

I just downloaded an update moving me to Photoshop cc 2017. I have a project I am working on and I can not change text color........ I go through the color picker and choose the color I want but it always reverts back to a gray color....... please help.......

Is the image in greyscale mode?

Is the layer blend mode set to Luminosity?

Have you tried opening the properties window and selecting the text layer. The properties dialog window should let you change it with ease.

Also if everything is remaining gray you might have accidentally changed your default color modes.
