Why does PDF printing pause for a long time then continue?

When printing PDFs, the printer pauses for a long time (up to 30 seconds) then continues.

It does this for each page

I've potentially eliminated the printer as a problem because if I save the PDF to my computer and then open with Microsoft Edge, it prints properly without hesitation.

I'm using the latest version of Acrobat DC on my PC

Windows 10 pro

64 bit operating system

Printer is an HP8620 Pro

Check to make sure that you don't have "Print as image" accidentally turned on. This setting is on the "Advanced" screen of the print dialog.
