Quotes/Apostrophes cause Space Deletion...?

okay, so... inDesign CC.  i'm using full page images and placing text on top, and exporting to epub with fixed layout.

this is working well for me (in epub, don't even ask about mobi), but... just today, i finished importing all the text for my book and exported and did a preview with the Adobe Digital Editions preview thing...  and it's removing spaces between words sometimes.  usually after a word with an apostrophe, but sometimes the first two words in a quote.

examples:

"You're something..." => "You'resomething..."

"Are those..." => "Arethose..."

"You want..." => "Youwant..."

"Allyou..." =>  "Allyou..."

and a stray one not in quotes or near an apostrophe...

... vow not ... =>  ... vownot ...

any ideas?

Is it an OpenType font?

hmm... you know, it's the default font that it wanted to use.  let me look...

Minion Pro: O  so yes, OpenType.

(i also forgot to add... i'm using 'justification with last line centered' as a text box formatting option. in case that means something!)

How’s it look using InDesign’s EPUB interactivity preview panel?

it looks the same in that preview panel as it does in the layout.  no problems, there.

Try it in iBooks as well.

i got it just a day or two ago.  says it's 4.5.6

   ibooks is not something i can run.

at any rate... if i manually insert extra spaces, it solves the problem, though i know that's no help if you're looking into what's causing it.  thanks for looking!

I suspect it’s the reader. Try using Publish Online and see how it looks there.

One more question...where did the text come from? Was it placed, pasted?

i pasted it after copying it from google docs.

just for completion, i wanted to add that i didn't do any formatting in google docs, except some italicizing (which didn't stay with the pasted text, so i had to re-do in inD).

That could be an issue coming in with some kind of junk.

Try copying to a plain text editor and then from there into InDesign.

okay, i did a QUICK test, put the text in editpad (plain text editor), copied and pasted from there to a duplicate page in the file.

   and yes, it had the weird spacing issues.

   ...i was gonna say, maybe it had to do with the justification formatting... but i just looked again, and the text boxes i was using for these are left aligned, not justified at all.  so i dunno.

   i can't mess with this any more, i need to deal with it as is and move on.  trying to make a deadline here.  thanks for your help!
