PNG import

Hello,

I´m tired to place a PNG with meta data 5472 x 3648 px / RGB / 12 BIT / and 21,21 MB size.

The PNG is definitely big enough for the planned sign area.

But I got after the import only an icon with a size of 38,4 x 28,8 px

I´m hopefully looking forward that anyone can help me.

Thanks a lot

Christoph

Where was the PNG even created? 12bit is not a valid color depth for PNGs, so AI may simply not be able to read the data and use the preview thumbnail instead.

Hi Mylenium,

it was created by a Pentax KS 2.

But sorry, I Wort the wrong data type. It´s not PNG it´s DNG Image file.

DNGs and other Raw formats can rarely ever be imported properly into AI. You have to convert it in Photoshop to TIFF or something.

Christof,

Something rather strange seems to be going on. 5472/3648 = 3/2, but 38.4/28.8 = 4/3, so the imported image even has different proportions.

What happens if you File>Place it (you may place it as a linked file if you wish)?

when you place a DNG in illustrator, you get its JPEG preview, not the actual DNG, which illustrator doesn't support.

in short: don't place RAW files in illustrator.
