the app keeps crashing. It opens momentaril, not responsive, goes to recent files page, not responsive, then crashes completely.

As per the description above, the Adobe Reader is crashing in your Mobile, Is that correct?
Please check for any pending updates for Adobe Reader from the app store .
If the issue still persists, please share the following details:
Is it an Android or iOS device?
The version of Reader DC installed.

I am not using Acrobat DC. It is on my iPad mini With current updates. The Acrobat version is 17:07:27.

Please check for any pending updates of Acrobat DC installed on your iPad Mini.
If this does not fix, please uninstall and reinstall the Acrobat DC i.e. free version of Reader.
