I work with one other guy, we each have the most up-to-date version of after effects CC 2017. Whenever I open a project file and save it, he can no longer open it. He receives this message "Bad format or not readable", but then I can still open it up. i have checked the permissions of the file, ive tried saving it under a different name. Any ideas?

Yeah, you gotta watch out for those Linux operating systems!

Seriously, You need to provide detailed info about your hardware, plus OS & software versions right down to the last decimal point in order to get a meaningful diagnosis.

Hello,

Which OS do you use, Win or Mac?

If the issue is related to the permission, you test like this.

1. You copy the project file into your local desktop.

2. You open it by After Effects and add something and save it again.

3. You directly copy the file into the local desktop of another guy.

4. He checks he can open it or not.

If he can open it, you check the permission of your shared storage and the log-in account.

Hello,

The above screen shot says

Owner : unknown - Read & Write

Group: unknown- Read & Write

Others : everyone - No Access

You set the specific owner and change the permission (Privilege). If you use the closed network environment, you simply set Read & Write for all. You can set the owner, using the command line of chown on Terminal.app.
