Cannot open Indesign

Hi

After a Windows update I can no longer open Indesign. Nor can I open files created and saved with Indesign. I can, however, open Photoshop and Illustrator. My Adobe programs open from the Adobe Creative Cloud. Has the forum any suggestions?

Thanks for your reply. When I try to open Indesign the usual splash pops up and after that also the dark frame. Then, it all shuts down; no error msg, nothing to guide me...

First thing to try is trashing your preferences:

Hi - the ctr+alt+shift kind of did the trick. It stopped the loading of the process somehow and allowed me to open and edit a previous document and thus solve my immediate need. However, I still cannot simply open a document. I am sure its the windows update...

Hi again

I understand that you dismiss the possibility of windows update creating this error considering all the negative response that you did not receive. The ctrl+alt+shift does'nt work anynore and I am effectively prevented from using the InDesign program. I do not really care abt the customisation and I have therefor uninstalled InDesign and reinstalled it - to no avail.

My PC is a standard lenovo T series with all relevant updates installed.

Hi kristiank,

According to your last reply after resetting preferences all the  Indesign was opening fine, however, it is still not opening again.

Is there a particular file which is not working of Indesign itself is not opening.

Please try removing preferences manually.

  • Close all Adobe applications.
  • Go to Locations C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe and C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Adobe.
  • Delete InDesign folders.
  • Launch InDesign from CC
