Ultimately the client would like to be able to print the search results list which they can't do with the current default dialog (or can they?)

Are we talking a CHM file here or Webhelp. If the former, no you can't print the search results. In webhelp you can provided the focus is on the search results.

I know it does not work with CHMs. Confirmed by Wrensoft who produce ZoomSearch.
