I'm confused.

I see all of these people on youtube doing tutorials on youtube for Adobe Photoshop CS6 where you have to press "Control + (key)".

But, whenever I press control it turns my mouse into a cursor with a box with lines on it, and i have no idea what to do.

If someone could please help me solve this, that would mean the world to me right now. Thank you!

Are you trying to enlarge an image, if you are using a Mac, it's cmd + + to enlarge the image and cmd + - to reduce the size of the image.

The thing is, I'm on a Mac with a different type of keyboard (our other one broke) and it doesn't have cmd.

Thank you, though! I appreciate it.

Hi confused.

What operating system are you using?

What version of Photoshop?

Which tool do you have selected when you see this box cursor?

What are your cursor settings in Preferences?

I'm using an Apple Mac.

I use Adobe Photoshop CS6.

And, it's with every tool.

also, I have only "normal brush tip" selected.

If you're using a Mac and you have a none Mac keyboard without the Command (Apple) key I should think that would make it rather difficult to use!

Pressing the Control key on Windows temporarily changes whatever tool you're using to the Move tool, and the Windows Control key normally corresponds to the Command key on a Mac - although there are exceptions, where it corresponds to the Control key on a Mac.

So if you are getting the Move tool, this is perfectly normal. If you are about to press a shortcut, the changed tool doesn't prevent you from doing that. The Move tool looks like this:

Although I don't use a Mac, I do find it strange that there are Mac keyboards that don't have a Command key.

(Sorry i couldn't get an exact picture of it, but this is what it looks like.)

The move tool does look like that on my photoshop, but this isn't it.

I was pressing the wrong button. Since I have a Dell keyboard with a Mac computer, it was the windows button on my keyboard, not Ctrl.
