Update LR4.4 to LR6.12 - Import is super slow

Hi all,

I update from LR4.4 to LR6.12 and the import now is painfully slow.

On LR4 it took me seconds to import dozens / hundreds of picture from my NAS.

With LR6 it take 5 Minutes - just for 20 Pictures. I only work in RAW.

Catalog is on local HDD of course.

Regards

Dominik

Same photos? Same location of the photos? Or are these different photos or in different locations?

Are the options for generating previews the same in both LR 4.4 and 6.12?

yes, same location.

Same settings for previews. And previews is not the problem its showing the pics in the library view before LR does the rendering of previews.

...and further - it is only with *.NEF Files and not JPEGs. JPEG are as fast as before.

I double checked but it was more complicated to use the same pics as LR4 does not read D810 NEF Files.

But it looks like JPEGs are super fast on both LRs and NEF files super slow 😕

I'm not sure this is a fair test to compare NEF import speeds, when the D810 NEFs are 36 megapixels files, while the LR4 is importing NEF files that are quite a bit smaller.

So ... it's hard to say if you are having an import problem due to the size of the D810 files, or for some other reason.

Perhaps you can use the DNG Converter, convert the D810 RAW to DNG, and then import the DNGs into both LR 4 and LR 6, and see if there is a speed difference.

OK, I´ll give it a try. From local disk its way faster importing the NEFs. I´ll give it a shot with the DNGs! Thanks!
