Photoshop 2018...

And that’s all with new Features???

A needless new Path-Tool and some other things which are not impressiv...

Adobe are you kidding me???

What is with the new features shown in the Sneakpeeks (like sky-replacement, Style Transfer etc.)???

And the new AI Detail-Scaling has absolutely nothing to do with the shown Algorithm wich use intelligent detail Generation etc... shown in some publication...

Also the „new„ Masking-Algorithm is not really better than the old!!!

This has also nothing to do with Artificial Intelligenc...

Adobe, I‘m really disappointed!!!

you have had less than 24 hours to evaluate these new features, just clicking on them once and declaring they are useless is hardly an in depth critique. Photoshop is a very subtle program and unless you work on a real world project using some of the new additions then you will not be well placed to make a meaningful criticism. The most useful features are often not the all singing and dancing special effects, but the tiny under the hood modifications that improve workflow. CC2018 is clearly faster in many areas than before, particularly in the area of the blur filters and although you don't seem to need to see what you are doing with paths most people do. There are things there you probably have not discovered like improved compression for png files and the mirroring of brush strokes and the new ability to store as pre-sets brush characteristics all of which makes the work of professionals more easy.

yes sure are „under the hood“ improvements good, but since Adobe has an Abo-Model only, the real impressive new Features stay out...

They Show cool things (sneak peaks), but nothing get implemented in Photoshop 😞

Some things may work well enough for a presentation but I am not sure that means they are as stable on several versions of two OS’ with various processors, GPUs and drivers as one would hope for in a general release.

Patience is a whatchamacallit, ain’t it?

True. That's why it's always smart to keep the old version until at least the first point release of the new version. I know first hand that 19.0.1 is coming with bug fixes for many issues—including a painful text leading bug in the Character panel.

it's a shame they didn't manage to incorporate interface scaling at 150% in this version-I thought that would be there for sure given that the beta program has been running a few months now, but as you say if it is not stable there's no point in putting it out.

This is a user Forum, so you are not really addressing Adobe here, even though some Adobe employees thankfully have been dropping by.

And you may want to tone down the venting.

Tech previews do not carry the promise of implementation or of a timeline for implementation, as far as I know.

Just for the record, here is a better recap of all of the new features for Photoshop:

New features summary | October 2017 release of Photoshop CC

The biggest features with this new release relate to Brushes and Painting. Brush smoothing, brush organization and the library of Kyle Webster and Symmetry Painting. Everything else seems like small enhancements, but could seem like major updates in the eyes of others (copy/paste layers).

Besides. Writing a program like photoshop is not a breeze in the park, but adding to an already complex piece of software is a daunting task, as adding an enhancement might mess up 2 or three other established routines.

I'm more happier with 2018 then with the previous versions of Photoshop.  I hope Adobe follows this path for future updates for a while; there are things that need to be addressed which have been back logged for years.

I actually think this release includes features that show they are finally starting to listen to what many users have been requesting for a very, VERY long time. Digital painting and drawing was becoming somewhat painful in Photoshop compared to the (free and commercial) competition out there, and the inclusion of mirror painting as well as the stroke stabilizer (and the mixer brush a while ago) definitely show that Adobe was losing artists switching to other software for that particular kind of work. The brush workflow improvements further attest to that.

The inclusion of panorama editing is an obvious response to another competing product.

And this release includes some nice basic workflow enhancements (copy paste layers) that mirror the workflow in those other apps. Just makes it easier to work with.

It's funny, many users have been clamouring for symmetry painting and a stroke stabilizer for literally DECADES, and now that it is here, people still complain. Nope, this is a "there's light at the end of the tunnel" release. The competition is affecting them, and this is the result: long-standing missing features were implemented. A long time coming, but here they are.

Good. Keep it up. Fix the other stuff. All in all, I feel Adobe's Photoshop team is finally starting to see the light here. Keep on working on the things that made Photoshop so good, instead of adding unnecessary fluff. Improve the core, prepare for the future.
