PS 2018 auto-select not working

Auto-select is not working properly when using the move tool. It selects a several objects then stops selecting at all in both layer and group mode.

Yes, I know how is it supposed to work . The problem is it doesn't (with a "hard" tick and CTRL held). The problem is not consistent though, every once in a while auto-select is actualy reset and working like it should, but after selecting few objects it stops responding.

I noticed that when it is buged the smart guides are blinking - they appear for a fraction of second when hovering over the object but dissapear in the end.

After an update the problem solved itself. Didn't find any other solution.
