Unable to import photos into Lightroom

I have been downloading photos onto my external hard drive with no problems everyday until today.

I copied the photos into the hard drive and it was fine but when I tried importing them into Lightroom and the error:

Could not copy a file to the destination folder because it is not writable.

Items 1-100

Items 101-200 and so on..

comes up. I advent changed anything since I imported photos yesterday and it was fine.

Any help would be great thanks.

Is this in LR CC 2015 or LR Classic?

If the photos are already on your computer and the EHD is connected you should choose “Add” not “Copy” in the import dialog.
