Hi,
Here is a customer demand that becomes reccurrent:
- that a user can add a personal comment (annotate) a topic
- that this comment be retrieved in subsequent updates

Is that possible and how?
Using Webhelp (or HTML help)

I'm currently using Robohelp X5 but could upgrade to benefit from that possibility.

Thanks in advance for any information on this issue.

Welcome to the forum.

Neither webhelp nor HTML help offer that option. However, Adobe now offer .AIR help which does have this option but you would need RH7 for that.

To get comments working the help has to be installed locally.

There is more about it on my site. You will need to discuss this with your developers as there are significant differences from their point of view.

Still using X5, we've been providing a "CustomHelp" folder at the root level (equal to the wh*data folders), in which customers can use the .htm [template] files we provide. They can add their own logo, copyrights, etc., and can add any notes or reference material, with the help of someone fairly proficient in HTML.

All our upgrade installations are written so as to not overwrite this folder, so that they don't lose any info they've previously added.

We have only a small percentage of customers who actually use it, but they're happy with it.

Good luck,
Leon

Hi all

In addition to the AIR help Peter mentioned, he has some information on his site about how to provide user added information. You may find it at the link below:

Hi all,

Thank you very much for your prompt and useful replies. I've learned a great deal and I'm very surprised there are so many options.
High hopes on Robohelp packager for AIR help, but will have to wait for the final version. Meanwhile, KnowHow, links through javascript file or Leon's very simple solution will be thoroughly examined.
Special thanks to Peter for his website... not forgetting the unforgettable Rick for pointing out to useful information within it.

I'll certainly come back for further information on these solutions.
