Surface Blur causes layer to disappear completely

Hi there,

I've had this issue for a couple of days now, and cannot grasp where the root of the problem comes from. I'm using PS CC, got the latest update and am running it on my MacBook 13" with no GPU. Everything in the OSx is updated to latest available release as well.

I am using no third party software, have checked all my fonts and tried running photoshop in safe mode, reinstalled photoshop - nothing did the job. It was working perfectly fine before suddenly not, and I cannot figure out what the trigger has been.

Screenshot shows layer before / after adding surface blur. Does not matter if it is masked or not, etc. Everything else works perfectly fine, including all other blurs - but I'm usually using this specific one for my editing, why I have a hard time managing without.

Hopefully someone here can help me!

Same issue. Using 2014 iMac.
Doesn't matter how large or small the image is, or whether using Surface Blue through smart layers or not. Still layer disappears and nothing happens.

Please help!

Having the same issue on iMac Retina 5K, 2017 running OS X Sierra 10.12.6. The issue started occurring when I updated PS to CC 19.0 Release.

Please help! This is a crucial tool for me.

I hope it'll be looked into soon, as it is a crucial tool for me too. Having tested several other Macs with the same version, it appears to be a general issue to me as well.

As a temporary solution, I have found that the initial background layer which is locked works with surface blur - as long as you do not remove the lock from the background.

Hence, you need to make the area which you want to use Surface Blur upon and use it directly that way - it is far from optimal, but serves as a kind of last-option way around this issue to me at least.

Hopefully Adobe will look into this soon.

Opened image from Lightroom into Photoshop and had this issue. Changed the image from 16 bit channel to 8 bit channel in Image > Mode. Worked for me.
