Multi-lingual demo versions

Hi.

I am making training demos in English. I need to have versions in French. Can I export text for translation to French and then import the translation into my projects?
Can the translation be done by somene else who does not have a Captivate license?

First, it might be possible to do that translation, but I'm guessing because I've never tried this. You might be able to go to the FILE menu and EXPORT > ... CAPTIONS and CLOSED CAPTIONS, which will export the English language versions ...

... then open that MS Word document on a French language machine to make the changes ...

... then go to FILE > IMPORT > PROJECT CAPTIONS AND CLOSED CAPTIONS

I emphasize I haven't tried this myself, but it seems to me it might work.

... the answer is, Yes, because all they should need is MS Word to make the changes, then send that file to the person with the Captivate license.

CatBandit's suggestion is a good one and will certainly work.

However, if you are using Captivate 3, I might respectfully suggest you consider foregoing the Word export and opt instead for using the XML Export option. You will end up with more translatable objects if you choose that route. It works in a very similar fashion to the Word Export. You just click File > Export > To XML... and name the file.

As with Word, you end up with a file you hand to someone to translate. I believe the XML is also formatted so that it will work with some Translation Memory systems that translation specialists use. According to the Adobe Captivate site, the format is XLIFF (XML Localization Interchange File Format).

Now that that has been said, I guess there is nothing to do but try both suggestions and use the one that you think works best for you. I considered the XML option also, and looked at the output and felt it was going to result in more work than it was worth, confusing and worthless to the average Captivate user ... while the export to Word option would likely be workable for all.
