Text Problem CS3

For some unknown reason when I try to us "T" all I get is a black dot followed by a black line but no text? What have I done to deserve this please and how do I rectify it??

A screen capture showing your probem might help.  Try resetting all tools if that does not solve your problen try resetting your preferences.

Part of a screen capture that show nothing about your document layers structure of content of layers. Did you try resetting tools and preferences?

I will do another screen shot I have looked at my tools and preferences but do not know which preferences or tools need resetting? I am very grateful for your assistance  but if you could tell me what exactly it is you would like to see in a screen sot, I will send it along.

Thanks again for your help, much appreciated. I am trying to type the names of people under their picture. The first one I did was fine but thereafter, all I get is a dot and a black line, no text at all. I will take a shot of the complete layers box so you can see what is happening.

Your problem is White on White change the text color to black.
