Hi Everyone,
I'm using Photoshop CC 2018 (latest update two days ago). I would like enable access to Oil Paint - the option is grayed out. Preferences -> Performance -> Advanced Settings -> Use OpenCL is also grayed out. I have made sure my document is in RGB color mode. I am running Photoshop in 64-bit mode. My OS is 64-bit. All my patches and drivers are up to date/latest versions.
Machine specs are as follows:
Processor: Intel Core i5-3450
RAM: Corsair Vengeance, 16GB DDR3
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 750W
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO (primary)
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
NVRAM: 4GB DDR5
GLVersion=4.5
CLVersion=1.2
I know this question has been asked many times but I cannot find a proper solution. Can anyone solve this issue - how do I enable OpenCL and Oil Paint?
Here is a snapshot of my System Info:

I am having the same problem and I was able to turn on OpenCL in the performance properties on this same computer system before. I know my computer and graphic card supports it. It has nothing to do the photo. You can not turn it on in the preferences. It is possible the 2018 version of Photoshop CC has a bug?

It has nothing to do with the type of photo it is although I did try this and it did not work. The OpenCL option is grayed out in the performance section of preferences. Until Photoshop recognizes the video card as being OpenCL compliant this feature will not work. I created many Oil Painting images with Photoshop CC 2017 on this same computer. This feature stopped working with Photoshop CC 2018.
Thanks for the reply though.

Have you tried downloading and installing the latest driver for your GPU, I have often found that re-installing the driver can sometimes fix this issue

I decided to install Photoshop CC 2017 on a different but very similar computer. Same hardware. The OpenlCL is checked in the performance preferences and the Oil Paint filter is active. Then I tried installing Photoshop CC 2017 on the same computer that had been upgraded to Photoshop CC 2018 and the 2017 version is exhibiting the same problem. The OpenCL is NOT an option. Both computers are using the same version of NVidia driver. It is not the absolute latest but the latest version certified for Windows 10. I tried to update the driver in Windows 10 and it said it was the latest version. I don't think the driver version is the problem. Adobe changed something with Photoshop CC 2018 that affected OpenCL and now it will not work on any version of Photoshop. I hope Adobe fixes this soon.

The only thing I can suggest is un-installing the Nvidia drivers from Windows Control Panel
Download the latest Certified driver from here and install that.

Well after much thought and concern I downloaded and installed the latest NVidia driver. They just loaded a new version. That fixed the problem. I am reluctant to install drivers outside of the Windows updates because of the problems they can cause. I rarely have problems if I stick with the versions certified by Microsoft. Hopefully this will not cause other app issues.
Thanks for everyone's help.
