Is it possible to save audio created in a Captivate 3 presentation as independent wav files? I haven't found a way to save the audio files by themselves.

Welcome to our community, Candy

Sure! Click Audio > Advanced Audio. Choose the clip (you may need to enable the "Show object level audio" first).

Ensure only "Include WAVE files in export" is selected and click the Export button. Then you should be prompted as to where to save the file.

Cheers... Rick
