You cannot convert Illustrator files to InDesign files if that’s what you’re asking.
The same restrictions that have held in the past are still true.
You can place them or copy/paste with simple drawings.
You have always been able to place AI files, and also copy and paste between them. I think what you are asking is does Illustrator do any better job of opening PDF files so you can then put them into InDesign. The answer is no.
PDF2ID is the tool for that, a PDF was never meant to be a format for making future changes to, although in practise may of us do that every day.
My method is to place the PDF in InDesign, delete stuff you don't want in Acrobat, copy vector elements you need to change from Illustrator and put the rest over the top in InDesign.
Bummer. Two things I dream of in my life. Me winning the lottery and InDesign importing AI project files. Some day... Some day...
I contacted PDF2ID and they advised me that perhaps, maybe they will have a compatible version of their product coming out in August 2012 that will work with the CS6 suite.
Anyone know of good Interactive PDF programs other than InDesign since it does not import AI project files?
I am not going to copy and paste in all image files from my AI project file. You can get that out of your minds right now!
It might help if you told us more detail about what you are trying to achieve. Long term, if you need it in InDesign why not start it in InDeisgn?
A brochure was created in AI. I am now needing to create an interactive pdf from that brochure including videos, links, animations etc.. I am aware of copying each image into InDesign and even rebuilding the thing in InDesign.
Ah... Of course I'm going to say you should have used InDesign from the get go. Use Illustrator for vectors etc sure, but InDesign is way superior for layout. Does it have text in paragraphs? That should be done in InDesign.
There are some text parapraphs. I know what should have been done. Can't change that. Have to deal with the "now". I take it that I will either have to paste in my artwork or convert an editable pdf from AI with PDF2ID and use the text location from that to add in the proper text with InDesign.
