Under the QuickTime formats, do you have the option for H.264 in the Compression settings?
If so, you should be able to choose 1920 x 1080, with that H.264 setting. If you choose DV/DVC, you will have output settings limited to the DVD Frame Sizes.
No I don't have that option
How do you plan to display this video? There are different best options, depending on whether you're outputting video to display on a web site, upload to YouTube, play on an iPad, smartphone or other portable device, use in a future project, output to DVD or BluRay, etc.
I want to output to a quicktime HD format because it allows you to watch frame by frame which I use a lot.
MOV files are just envelopes. Like AVI files. You can put any video codec into it.
The most common codec to output as MOVs these days is the H.264 codec, which produces MP4s. MP4s are essentially MOV files. In fact, if you'd like you can change the suffix from MP4 to MOV and it will still function exactly the same way.
Well Elements 8 does not do HD mpeg afterall. I can't believe it since it's one of the most popular formats. Adding all the major bugs this software has at all stages of the editing process this thing is an absolute waste of money. Downloaded a free trial of Corel Video Studio Pro X 5 and really liked it so I bought it. And yes it does export HD mpeg. Both in 1080 and 720
>Elements 8 does not do
You do know that all programs change over time... and that version 10 is current?
Current with what? And that would mean buying new software again. And after my experience with Elements 8 (insanely amount of bugs) I'm not buying it again even if it was version 25.

Sorry to hear you can't get on with PRE. But, if you have the opportunity, see if you can return your Corel Pro X5 version and replace it with the 'Ultimate' version. Ultimate comes with the Mercalli ProDAD image stabilizer - it is an amazing piece of software. I bought the Pro X4 Ultimate version purely for that component, but still use PRE for everything else.
