LindyLou66: Does the font exist in a Document Fonts folder that's next to the InDesign file you're opening?
Can you explain what:
but CS5.5 - Indesign, Illustrator & photoshop - still displays Futura as being open but only InDesign does not display the font correctly
means? Maybe a screenshot? A picture is worth a thousand words.
Hey John - Thanks for the quick reply. It happens with all InDesign files I open - even when I create a new InDesign file the font is still in the menu but does not display correctly (substitutes it with a serif font of some sort). Both Illustrator and Photoshop also have the Futura font in the font menu but they both display it correctly even though I have removed the font from FontBook. Weird!
Also, in InDesign, can you go to Type > Find Font... and display More Info about the font?
Do you have any 3rd party font management software installed, such as Extensis Suitcase Fusion, Font Explorer, Font Agent Pro, etc.?
Does it happen when you start with no documents open and then begin a new document?
Hopefully I've taken the right screenshots...
No third party font management software installed. Only use fontbook. It happens with every single Indesign document whether I have one open or not. Its happened ever since I installed it.
Note how its pointing to MinionPro-Regular.otf - never had this problem before.
I just turned off Minion Pro - same thing happens. I'm stumped!
Have you tried rebooting?
yes. It's been going on for months. Short of a full re-install, I've got no idea how to fix this.
Perhaps you have a corrupt version of Minion Pro? I wonder what happens if you [temporarily] remove it?
I realize that a number of Adobe apps depend on Minion Pro, so some other things might go wrong if you take it out. Still, it's what I would try.
I'll give it a go later. I've got tonnes of work on and for now I just won't use Futura! Thanks I'll get back to you with results.
In your first screen shot , there are 2 futura font ,one is Adobe Type 1 font and the second one is True Type, you might have installed both the type of the font on your computer sometime. Now you have removed all the futura font and it is still showing in the Indesign , also the same thing happened with the Minion Pro , seems to me the font cache is not updating.
First remove the Adobe Font cache's file:-
At the Finder, choose File > Find.Type AdobeFnt.lst, select the system drive, and then press Return.Delete all AdobeFnt.lst files found (for example, AdobeFnt10.lst).
then clear system font cache :-
- Launch Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities)
- Enter the following command at the prompt and press Return:
sudo atsutil databases -remove
- Restart your computer immediately
