1. Re: Color Banding and Posterization at all Zoom Levels Lower than 66.6% - Photoshop CS6
Noel Carboni May 22, 2012 10:01 AM (in response to HeavyTheory.com)The short explanation is that the combinational logic for generating downsized previews is 8 bits/channel.
See this thread for an explanation, and a possible workaround you can use:

HeavyTheory.com May 22, 2012 11:37 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)Thanks for your quick response Noel. I tried the suggestions in that post but I don't notice a difference. So downsized previews are rendered in 8 bit and therefore a less accurate simulation?

3. Re: Color Banding and Posterization at all Zoom Levels Lower than 66.6% - Photoshop CS6
Noel Carboni May 22, 2012 1:34 PM (in response to HeavyTheory.com)Yes, exactly. It's optimized for speed.
If you want to see the full high bit depth combination of the layers, reduce Cache Levels to 1, set GPU mode to Basic, and close and restart Photoshop before testing.
